Charles Willson Peale (1741-1827) wrote, in his 20th Lecture (ca. 1799): "No. 404. Black Capped creeper. Length 5 ¼ Inches; Bill ¾ of an Inch; the upper mandible blackish. The lower light; Head of a velvet black, which descends just below the eye on each side, and as far as the nape behind; the body green; wings & tail darker green, approaching to black at the ends; feet lead colour. Found at Surinam, Brasil, and Guiana. Certhia spiza Linn. Grimpereau à tête noire du Bresil. Buffon pl. enl. 578. Black Headed Creeper Ltham p. 726. No. 28. Green Black Cap Flycatcher Edward No. 25."
