Charles Willson Peale (1741-1827) wrote, in his 32nd Lecture (ca. 1799): "No. 1379. Purple throated Chatterer. the plumage is a greenish blue; the throat a fine purple; wings back, the ends of the wing coverts, edged with blue green. on examining the plumage, all the feathers near the quil parts are black, but the feathers parts towards the ends tipped with the blue green, which feathers appear more brilliant by lamp light than in day time. This is a native of South America, but chiefly of the warmest parts seldom south of brazil." (Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University Archives, coll. 40)
Peale wrote, in "A Walk Through the Philad[elphi]a Museum" (1805–1806): "No. [blank] Purple throated Chatterer (A. Cayana) This elegant Bird is a Native of the warmest parts of South America." (Historical Society of Pennsylvania, coll. 0481)
