Additional Source Text:

Alexander Wilson (1766-1813) described this species under the name "Bay-breasted Warbler / Sylvia castanea" in American Ornithology vol. 2 (Pl. 14), where "Peale's Museum No. 7311" was cited (Wilson 1810: 97).

Notes:

The "Autumnal Warbler / Sylvia autumnalis" of Wilson (1811), which appeared in American Ornithology vol. 3, Pl. 23, may have been an immature (hatch-year) of this species, but Wilson did not cite a Peale Museum number in that account.
