On 17 April 1822, the "Head of a Pelican from the East Indies, [was] Dep[osite]d by Dr. R. Harlan" (1796-1843) was recorded in the Peale Museum Accessions Book (Historical Society of Pennsylvania, coll. 0481).

Notes:

Dr. Richard Harlan (1796-1843) was a Philadelphia-born physician and naturalist (especially paleontology) who was elected to the American Philosophical Society (APS) in 1822, and was also an active member of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia.
