Accession Date:

By 1805

Primary Source Reference:

Charles Willson Peale, "A Walk through the Philad[elphi]a Museum" (1805-1806). Historical Society of Pennsylvania, coll. 0481.

Additional Source Text:

Charles Willson Peale (1741-1827) wrote, in "A Walk Through the Philad[elphi]a Museum" (1805–1806): "This from New Holland, and called the green Coly, yet it is but slitely tinged with that colour." (Historical Society of Pennsylvania, coll. 0481)

Notes:

This is presumably a reference to the "Green Coly" of Latham (1787: 147, Supplement to the General Synopsis of Birds), except that Latham stated "the whole plumage [was] of a deep glossy green." In any case, Latham’s “Green Coly” remains unidentified because no species in the family Coliidae (genus Colius) occurs in Australia.
