Charles Willson Peale (1741-1827) wrote, in his 34th Lecture (ca. 1799): "No. 1615. Fringilla montana of Linn. Friquet Buff. pl. enl. 267. Mountain Sparrow Ed. t. 207. Latham Syn II. I. p. 252. n. 2. Art. Zool. 2. p. 379. 246. Inhabits Europe, eastern Sibiria & also ? North America. I much doubt it."
