Charles Willson Peale (1741-1827) wrote, in his 17th Lecture (ca. 1799): "No. 195. 200. Lesser Bonana. Length 7 ½ Inches. Bill blackish; face even with the Eyes; throat, quills and tail black; the rest of the body of a bright yellow; wing coverts black; most of them edged with white, as are the quills within towards the base; feet & claws black. Latham says he received some of these from Jamaica. The greater wing coverts were wholly white, forming a bar of white across the wing, and the yellow of the body inclining to olive."
